Unhealthy love //lover

To add to all of the bad things that have been going on Cheryl's life, she, by her high school days, started dating a man named Steve. Little to almost nothing is known about him, though we can figure out the most marking aspects in him with the help of a couple echo messages received. Though it's not hinted in the game or wherever, I have the feeling that Steve may be an older man -- specially, one of the echo messages says that Cheryl... reminded him of his daughter? I don't really get it. In any way, something is a hundred per cent clear about him: he was too fast for Cheryl. Kaufmann explains (or rather, tries) that by denying her father's death, she is denying sex, and the other way around. It's kind of difficult to understand what he means in fact by that.

His sexual advances didn't please Cheryl. She wasn't really looking for sex, but rather a person she could rely on and that would care about her -- someone that would replace her father. That led her to constantly push Steve when he tried to have sex. This behavior earned Cheryl the reputation of being frigid, and this frigidity is the subject of various phone messages. Unhappy with that, Steve would later break up with Cheryl, saying that if they couldn't be together like that, they couldn't be together at all.
