Carefully hidden //symbol

Shattered Memories is filled with subtle symbolism, the biggest of them being constantly present in the memento scattered all around the town. Other, simpler, symbolism samples:

• CAR WRECKS: they are repeated again and again in the game. It really shows how it marked Cheryl when Harry died from his car crash and, during her therapy, she repeats -- and relives -- that traumatizing experience three times: first in Harry's crash, then in Lisa's crash and, lastly, in Dahlia's crash.
• MEMORIES: after Harry's death, the good memories of him were all Cheryl had, and, from that point on, she clung to them, never letting them go. She started to depend on them and searched endlessly for a way to keep them alive -- and so she creates the fantasy world we walk through in the game. Photos, video recording and even small and meaningless souvenirs are kept by Cheryl as real treasures in her attempt to keep her father alive in her memory. In the end of the game, when she leaves all the mementos behind, is the moment when she decides she has to live her own life instead of relive fake memories.
• SNAKE: two of Dahlia's variants show her with snake themes; Seductive Dahlia has a snake tatoo on her stomach, and Tomboy Dahlia has a snake drawing on her hood. This could lead to a lot of things, from Cheryl's idea that her mother is a monster (whereas the snake would mean the embodiment of evil) to the figure of Ouroboros, the snake creature that represents one's life and rebirth, leading to the concept of the people in Cheryl's world, who are continuous and never-changing, almost as if immortal in her memory. The last relations becomes truer with the existence of the "Ouroboros" memento.
• LIGHTHOUSE: everything revolves around the Lighthouse. A lighthouse's primary function is to guide ships to the shore and are extremely useful when they're lost. It serves as guidance for the desperate sailors. For Cheryl, and also for Harry, it is the place with answers, or the place that will guide them to the answers they seek.
